QUEEN CARNIVAL CARD PARTY AND DANCE. (“Times-Age” Special.) There was a large attendance at the card party and dance held in the Memorial Hall on Wednesday evening. Visitors were present from Martinborough. The prizes in the euchre were won by Mr and Mrs Tot Burling; consolation prizes being won-by Mrs Sutton and Mr T. Sargent. In the bridge competitions, Mrs Atkinson and Mrs Gordon Sutherland were the winners among the ladies, while Messrs D. Green and G. Sutherland won the men’s section. Several competitions were held and altogether the gathering was a most successful one socially and financially. The dance music'was supplied by Messrs C. Carter and T. Burling and S. Mclntosh (accordion). A dainty supper was supplied by a committee of ladies headed by Miss Scrimegour who laboured assiduously to make the gathering a most enjoyable one. Among those present was Miss Kitty Smith, the country candidate for the queen contest at Martinborough, for whose candidature the function was organised. HOUSES FOR MAORIS START TO EE MADE SHORTLY. It is expected that a start will be made shortly in this locality with the erection of houses for Maoris under the Native Housing Scheme. Already timber is on the site of one building. Personal Items. The many friends in this district of Mrs Swainson will regret to learn of the death of her sister at Palmerston North recently. Mr and Mrs Fred. Brough, who have recently disposed of their interests in Martinborough, were visitors here during the week. Mr Neil Hume is on a short visit to Wellington. Mrs S. Cundy, Featherston, is the guest of Mr and Mrs Tilson, Te Kopi. Mr and Mrs Sullivan have taken up their residence in Wellington. Later they will remove to Christchurch, where Mr Sullivan will be employed on Government undertakings. Mrs Simmonds is an inmate of a private hospital. The health of Mrs Taurau is causing her family grave concern.
