CARTERTON
DEATH OF MRS ADAMS FORMER RESIDENT OF DISTRICT. (“Times-Age” Special.) The death occurred at the residence of her daughter, Mrs J. B. Jordan, Karori, Wellington, of Mrs Rosina Adams, at the age of 85 years. The deceased was well known in Carterton and Dalefield where she resided for very many years with her husband, who predeceased her some years ago. The late Mrs Adams was twice married and there are several children by her first marriage. Mrs C. Bruce is a daughter and is well known to Carterton residents as a pianist and music teacher. The late Mrs Adams had many friends in Carterton who will greatly regret her death. Up to some months ago deceased led a very active life, but a few months back was stricken with illness and had been for some time confined to her bed. The funeral will take place at Wellington and will be private. BABY CARNIVAL DRAWING TO A CLOSE. On Friday next the baby carnival that has been in progress for some time to raise funds for a ladies’ rest room in Carterton, will be brought to a close/ A “Paddy’s Market” will be held in the King’s Theatre. Included in the programme on the closing day will be a competition for’ babies other than those entered in the carnival and will be judged in three classes from 18 months and under, for which three valuable prizes and. a championship prize will be allotted. The entry fee will be 17- each. At 8.30 o’clock on Friday evening an ankle parade will take place. During the evening a sponge sandwich competition will be held. The entries will be judged on appearance only and afterwards sold in the Belvedere-Clareville stall In this connection a good prize will be awarded to the winner of the best sponge. After the crowning of the successful baby a dance will bring the gathering to a close. CARTERTON BRIGADE WINNER OF RAFFLE. 'The dressed .doll given as a prize in a raffle to raise funds for the purchase of new uniforms for members of the Carterton Fire Brigade, was drawn in the office of Printers Ltd., this morning under police supervision and the lucky number, 1467, was held by Mrs J. 3. Davis, Featherston. completes the efforts of the ladies’ committee on behalf of the brigade and they are to be congratulated upon their success. The ball, competitions and the raffle have been the means of raising over £lOO. This amount is in excess of the total required for uniforms and will give the fire brigade a surplus that will be used to good advantages.
Day of Prayer. The day of national prayer vzill be observed in the Carterton Methodist Church tomorrow in conjunction with the church’s 68th anniversary, for which an augmented choir has been trained. The preachers will.be the Rev F. J. Parker and the Rev H. White. The district chairman, the Rev P. R. Paris, has agreed to speak at the anniversary function to be held on Wednesday evening. Services will also be held in St Mark’s Anglican Church tomorrow and the ,preacher will be the Rev Bennett, Maori Missioner of Aotearoa. Personal. The friends of Mrs • A. Cook, of Carterton, who recently underwent an operation at the Glenwood Hospital, Masterton, will be pleased to hear that she is making satisfactory progress towards recovery.
