GERMAN WARSHIPS
ATTACKED BY BRITISH AIRCRAFT IN HELIGOLAND BIGHT. SOME PLANES FAIL,TO RETURN. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 9.30 a.m.) LONDON, September 29. A Ministry of Information communique states that units of the Royal Air Force carried out attacks today on ships of the German fleet in the Heligoland Bight. Despite formidable anti-aircraft fire they pressed home their attacks at a low altitude. Some of our aircraft have not yet returned. NAZI REPORT FIVE BRITISH PLANES SHOT DOWN. (Received This Day, 9.10 a.m.) BERLIN, September 29. It is officially announced that five British warplanes were shot down by German-pursuit planes, following upon an attack on German warships near Heliogoland. BERLIN REPORT UNSUCCESSFUL BRITISH ATTACK. (Received This Day, 9.50 a.m.) LONDON, September 29. According to a Berlin message it is officially stated there that six British planes, after attacking German naval units without success flew away to the west. German fighters intercepted them, shooting down five, after a short air battle.
