RAID ON SCOTLAND
ATTEMPTED BY GERMAN PLANES NONE BREAK THROUGH BRITISH SQUADRONS. THIRD ABORTIVE ATTEMPT. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. LONDON, September 29. The "Daily Telegraph” says German planes are reported to have attempted a raid on Scotland yesterday. None broke through the British squadrons, which went up immediately. A Daventry message last night stated that the German squadron which tried to reach the Scottish coast was driven off by British planes. This was the third successive day on which German bombers had flown over the North Sea. The first was the attack on British warships, the second, the alleged successful attack on a cruiser off the Isle of May, which was denied by the British Admiralty, and the third the attempt to reach the Scottish coast. NORTH SEA ACTION NO CASUALTIES OR DAMAGE TO BRITISH SHIPS. IN SPITE OF REITERATED GERMAN CLAIMS. LONDON, September 28. The Ministry of Information states that in view of the reiterated German claims the Admiralty reaffirms that no damage was done to British ships and there were no casualties in the North Sea action.. The report of hitting a heavy cruiser presumably refers to an attempt by German aircraft to bomb a destroyer in that area at 11.30 a.m. yesterday, but they failed to score a hit or cause damage. No cruiser has been attacked in that locality.
