The comparative lull continues on the Western Front, with occasional raids. The French took a number of prisoners this afternoon in the sector nearest the Moselle River. There is much firing of heavy guns. The weather is becoming cold and is very trying to the front-line troops, specially at night. Poland’s gallant stand has helped the French mobilisation and concentration to proceed unimpeded and the British concentration to begin under normal conditions. It has helped the Allies not only to enter German territory but to occupy strongly-held positions facing the West Wall, facilitating future operations, and enabling the French armies to obtain the cohesion and coordination so necessary when millions of men take the field. AIR BATTLE REPORTED BY FRENCH COMMAND. ADVANCE IN MOSELLE VALLEY. (Received This Day, 11.0 a.m.) >. ' PARIS, September 29. A General Staff communique announces an air battle at Wissembourg in which a French plane was shot down. German' patrols attacked at both ends of the West Front. The French have captured fifty German villages since hostilities opened. The French advanced 1600 yards on a 4J mile front on the Moselle yesterday. AIR RAID WARNING SOUNDED IN PARIS. (Received This Day, 11.0 a.m.) PARIS, September 29. An air raid warning was given in Paris this morning. The all clear was sounded forty minutes later. No gunfire was heard.
