IMPORT REGULATION
WHOLE PROCEDURE TO BE REORGANISED. STATEMENT BY MINISTER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. “In view of the war, we are compelled to reorganise the whole procedure in regard to import licences foi' the January-June period (next year," said the Minister of Finance. Mr Nash when replying to the second reading debate on the Customs Acts Amendment Bill in the House of Representatives, last night. The Minister also re ferred to a reported delay in the operation of the credits for New Zealand importers that he arranged in London and said that he had cabled to find ou, why the scheme was not working. .He hoped to have a reply tomorrow.
Details had been worked out up tc September 1 in connection with the licences for the first half of next year Mr Nash said. The war had changed the whole picture, and some changes had to be made to see that the money available was spent to best advantage. The work was in hand, and the Government was keenly anxious to get the amount available for the third period out as soon as possible. He would be glad to keep in touch with interested members.
