WAIRARAPA CENTRE. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The annual meeting of the Wairarapa Bowling Centre was held in the Working Men’s Club, Grey town, last night. Mr F. W. Smith (president) presided over a full attendance of delegates. . A vote of sympathy was passed m respect to bowlers who have died during the past year. The annual report stated that during the year visits were exchanged with Manawatu. Featherston won the Booth Cup. Mr Smith, in moving the adoption of the report of the past year, expressed his thanks to the Rev W. F. Stent, the secretary of the Centre. The balance sheet showed that a profit of £4 had been made on the year’s working. The New Year tournament showed a credit of £5 19s. There is a credit balance of £l4 9s 4d. The report and balance sheet were adopted. In nominating Mr G. Hayne as president Mr F. W. Smith, the retiring president, stated that Mr Hayne had taken a keen interest in bowling for many years. Mr H. Rolls seconded the motion. Mr Smith declined nomination. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—President, Mr Geo Hayne; vice-president, Mr H. M. Morton; executive, the Rev W. F. Stent. Messrs G. Hayne and H. M. Morton; secretary and treasurer, the Rev W. F. Stent; hon auditor, Mr C. H. Barber. Mr Hayne presented Mr Smith with his past president’s badge. On the motion of the retiring president the secretary was voted a bonus of £3 3s. The following trophies were presented to last year’s winners: Booth Cup Featherston Club; Duthie Shield. Masterton Park; champion of champions singles, V. Taylor; champion of champions pairs, J. W. Hyland, O. Neale (s), Featherston Club; champion oi champions fours, J. Skect. D. Douglas. W. Hendry, W. Christian (s); New Year tournament, P. Trovorrow. A. W. Chapman, A. Stubbings, E. J. Reid (s). Mr Roberts, acting on instructions from his club, moved that the Booth Cup competition be abandoned this year. Mr Morton seconded the motion. Mr Stent expressed regret that the resolution should have come from the Masterton Club. He stated that he fell sure that their action was not in the interest of the Centre. The Park Club delegates moved that the Booth Cup be a challenge competition. Eventually it was decided by a big majority to play the Booth Cup and Shield games. The annual New Year tournament will again be played on the Masterton green and conditions will be the same as last year, viz. 20s for each team. The following benefit tournaments were sanctioned: Boxing Day, Featherston; Anniversary Day, Greytown and Park; Good Friday, Martinborough. Efforts are to be made to exchange visits with the Manawatu and Wellington Centres.
A vote of thanks to the WorkingMen’s Club and to the president closed the meeting.
It was left to the president to co operate with the Centennial celebra tions.
The executive was authorised to go into the question of honours bars and badge.
