OTHER PEOPLE’S IDEAS
FLOWER FUND (To the Editor.) Sir—May I have space to put forward a suggestion? In' Sweden there has been in existence since 1921 a Flower Fund. Its membership includes governors of provinces, clergymen, authors, artists, business men and politicians. Relatives and friends of a bereaved family, instead of sending a wreath to decorate the coffin, remit to the Flower Fund the money that flowers would have cost. The fund secretary sends to the family a sympathetic memorial message in the name of the donor, while the money thus collected provides homes for elderly people in poor circumstances. In Stockholm buildings thus erected give homes to 1000 people. My suggestion is that a similar fund be started in our town and the money collected allocated to a war relief or other suitable fund. There is no reason that the idea should not spread throughout the Dominion and a very substantial fund be built up. Perhaps other correspondents would add their views. Yours, etc, “THE FLESH PROFITETH NOTHING.” Masterton, September 27.
