GREYTOWN

BOY SCOUTS A LUCKY GATHERING. (“Times-Age” Special.) A most enjoyable gathering was held at Greytown last night when the Greytown Scouts held a gathering to celebrate the winning of the third grade championship and the five-a-side tournament. There was a large attendance including the parents and members of the Wairarapa Hockey Association. Among those present were Messrs G. Hayne, R. S. Moor, and M. Worsfold. Mr Hayne, in a neat speech, complimented the Scouts on winning the two competitions, and on their splendid conduct on and off the field of play, living up to the great ideals of the Scouts. He handed to the Scouts the cup which they had won and a miniature cup to the members of the five-a-side team. Messrs G. Maloney, Moor and Worsfold and the Scoutmaster also spoke, adding their congratulations to those of Mr Hayne. An enjoyable supper was provided and the Scouts showed their appreciation in true scout fashion. WOMEN’S DIVISION MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Greytown Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held in the Parish Hall yesterday afternoon. Mrs Beu presided over a good attendance of members. Mrs Beu expressed hope for the future and said that she would like all W.D.F.U. members to be brave, have courage and help in every way possible to assist Britain in the present crisis. She was sure right would prevail. Members then stood in silence for two members who had suffered bereavements lately. Apologies were received from several members. Mrs Beu was appointed Trustee in place of the late Mrs Tate, for tfie W.D.F.U. An invitation to the Pihautea birthday party on October 19 was received. Mrs Beu asked' members to attend their respective churches on Sunday, October 1, when special intercession services were to be delivered. There is a shortage of housekeeper's in the - Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, and Mrs Beu asked members if they knew of any suitable persons who are looking for domestic employment, to refer them to her. Used stamps were received from Mrs Tully. A good response to the leper appeal in money and parcels was announced. Mrs Beu stipulated that in future the afternoon tea at meetings should be plainer than had been the case in the past. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Hutton Kidd, F. Judd, R. Beu and Miss Kidd. Miss Kidd gave a very interesting demonstration on cutting garments from old materials and stockings, etc, which was followed with keen interest. She was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The meeting closed with the singing Of the National Anthem. GOLF CLUB MEETING OF COMMITTEE.
