WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MONTHLY MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.,l There was a fair attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the local branch of the Women’s Institute, the president (Mrs Spicer) presiding. It was decided to appoint Mrs Marshall and Miss McKenzie as delegates to represent the branch at the council meeting at Martinborough. A very interesting and much appreciated address was given by Nurse Shadbolt relative to her experiences as a war nurse during the Spanish War. She was accorded a hearty vote of thanks by acclamation. The competition for cocoanut ice was won by Miss Scrimegour with Mrs Priest second. The hostesses were Mesdames Crosbie, Warren and McClelland. COUNTRY QUEEN BRIDGE AND EUCHRE PARTY. A bridge and euchre party was held at Tauanui homestead. There was a large attendance. The prizes for the bridge gdmes were won by Mesdames P. Macdonald and Gordon Sutherland (ladies) and Messrs Swainson and Bell (men). The euchre prizes were won by Mrs D. Sutherland with Mrs Sutton second in the ladies, and in the men’s section Messrs Simeon and Carter divided the first prize. A tasty supper was provided, the hostesses being Mrs Atkinson and Miss Scrimegour. The proceeds were in aid of the Country Queen (Miss Smith) in connection with the Martinborough Queen Carnival. Personal Items. Mrs Graham is on a short visit to relatives in Feilding. Mr J. T. Carter is attending the sittings of the Native Land Court at Le-. vin. Mr Andrew Simson, who has been on a holiday here for the past fortnight, returned to Feilding yesterday. Miss Bessie Sutton, who was the guest of Mr and Mrs J. Elliott, Featherston, has returned home. Nurse Fairburn, who was the guest of Mr and Mrs T. Hume, has returned to Wellington. The health of Mrs Taurau is causing her relatives considerable anxiety.
