PARIS TRAFFIC
TEN VEHICLES A SECOND.
Ten vehicles a second pass the busiest spot in Paris, where the rue Royal intersects the rue du Faubourg St. Honore, according to official traffic statistics just published. Every year the traffic service of the Prefecture of Police of Paris issues statistics of the number of vehicles passing the most frequented spots in Paris. Four of these, key positions, have been chosen for purposes of comparison; the entrance of Champs Elysees, the rue Royale where it crosses the rue du Faubourg St. Honore, the Boulevards where they cross the rue Drouot, and the crossing of the Boulevard Sebastopol and the rue de Rivoli.
Counting takes place during a whole week, and the time of day chosen is 3 p.m. to 7 p!m. This year the count was taken between June 19 and 25, and during these seven days the weather was fine on Monday, Tuesday, V/ednesday, Friday and Saturday, but wqt on Thursday and Sunday. The total figures for 1939 showed a slight increase over those of 1938: 389126 vehicled counted in 1939, against 398,122 in 1938. However, the ChampsElysees showed a diminution of 12,000 vehicles; 104,726 (whole week, counting taking place from 3 to 7 p.m.), against 116,476 last year.
