WOMEN CRICKETERS
TOUR OF NEW ZEALAND CANCELLED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, September 21. The New Zealand and Australian tour of the English women’s cricket team, planned to take place in February next year as part of the centennial celebrations, has been cancelled because of the international situation. The secretary of the New Zealand Women’s Cricket Council has received the following cablegram from the English women’s association: “Regret international conditions make tour impossibility. Trust it is pleasure deferred, but our country needs us.” Three matches were to have been played in New Zealand—a Test against the New Zealand team in Wellington, against the North Island, in Auckland, and against the South Island in Christchurch.
