LIFE INSURANCE
WAR LOADING ON SOLDIERS’ ’ POLICIES. PAYMENT BY GOVERNMENT ADVOCATED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. A suggestion that the Government should consider paying increases in soldiers’ life insurance premiums from patriotic funds was contained in a question of which Mr Bodkin (Opposition, Central Otago) gave notice in the House of Representatives yesterday. The question was addressed to the Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr Parry. Mr Bodkin intends to ask the Minister if his attention has been drawn to the fact that soldiers who have volunteered for active service and who desire to insure their lives to make provision for their dependents are being called upon to pay a heavy war loading, in addition to the ordinary premiums. “In view of the fact that the Minister has intimated that all funds raised for patriotic purposes are to be controlled by the Government, will he bring up for the consideration of the Government and those, responsible for the raising of money for patriotic purposes the desirability of paying the increase in such premiums out of these funds?” Mr Bodkin continued. “During the last war, hundreds of soldiers were assisted to pay life insurance premiums, by the Financial Assistance Board.”
