Mrs J. D. Wilson, of Pahiatua, is visiting Christchurch. Mrs F. Cobb, of Timaru, is the guest of Mrs W. F. Cobb. Pahiatua. Mrs W. Murch, of Pahiatua, has as her guest Mrs A. E. Butler, of Claudelands. Mrs Calvert Simpson, of Essex Street Masterton, has returned from a visit to Christchurch. Miss J. McLaren, of Renall Street, Masterton, has returned from a trip abroad. Mr and Mrs L. Jones, Wellington, are visitors to Masterton, and are staying at the Empire Hotel. Mrs Haast, of Wakefield. Nelson, is visiting her daughter, Mrs C. Simpson, Masterton. Miss Nancy Carrick, until lately District Nurse at Eketahuna, is at present recuperating at Otaki. Mrs Payne, of Hamilton, who has been visiting her mother, Mrs Nielsen, of Lincoln Road, Masterton, has returned home. Mrs and Miss Black, of Auckland, are on a holiday visit to Masterton and are among the guests staying at the Empire Hotel. Miss Molly Bassett, who has been training at the Karatane Hospital. Wellington, has returned to her home in Masterton.

Miss Joan Kimbell, daughter of Mr A. H. Kimbell, Lower Hutt, and an old girl of Chilton St. James’s School, was married on Wednesday to Dr. Esmond Jellicoe, at Wallingford, England. The many friends in Masterton of Mrs T. Burr, of Pahiatua. who underwent an operation at the Pahiatua Hospital, will be pleased to learn that she is making satisfactory progress towards recovery. Miss S. Collins, Featherston, New Zealand lady golf champion, is staying with her grandparents, Mr and Mrs L. A. Abraham, Park Road, Palmerston North, for the annual tournament of the Manawatu Ladies’ Golf Club. The death occurred at Wellington yesterday of Mrs Mary Elizabeth Tripe, widow of the late Mr Joseph Albert Tripe, barrister and solicitor, Wellington, and one of New Zealand’s best-known and gifted portrait painters. Mrs Tripe was a daughter of the late Hon. Edward Richardson, C.M.G., and a sister of Messrs C. A. Richardson and Edward F. Richardson, of Wellington. Pneumonia, supervening on influenza, was the cause of death.
