SUPPLY OF POWER

MEETING OF WAIRARAPA BOARD. RETICULATION LOAN OF £25,000 RAISED. v ("Times-Age” Special,) The revenue returns for August disclosed a very satisfactory position, reported Mr Geo. Brown, secretary-man-ager of the Wairarapa Electric Power Board at today’s monthly meeting. ( Both last year’s' revenue and the estimate had been exceeded by a substantial amount. What was, however, of more importance, was the fact that in spite of the abnormal peak experienced in July and the consequent abnormal increase in cost of power for the present quarter, the increase in revenue for July and August exceeded such increase in cost of power by a substantial amount. This indicated that the new domestic and “All Electric Home” rates were sound and possessed the necessary "inducement effect” at a price which left a sufficient margin of profit. In connection with the reticulation loan, the full amount of £25.000 had been subscribed. The 11,000 volts line extension to serve the ,-Matahiwi district had been completed and livened on August 11, reported the engineer, Mr H. B. Keenan'. A start had been made with the 11,000 volts extension to serve Mrs Wadham’s property at Kaituna with power for all purposes. On Sunday, August 20, during a prearranged shutdown with the Public ; Works Department, the following work was carried out: — Alterations to the Nos. 1 and 2 North Main Feeders to allow for the new 110 k.v. Government line crossing; overhaul of all the 11,000 volts structures at Waingawa sub-station, Kuripuni, Masterton depot and the Masterton Hospital; overhaul of 3,300 voltf sub-stations in Chapel Street and William Street: a general inspection and overhaul of all switching equipment inside the Waingawa sub-station. The reconstruction of the low tension lines along Cornwall Street and Wright Street in connection with the State Housing block had been completed and livened. During the month, the Inspection Department carried out a total of 245 inspections, including 29 new installations, 155 additions and alterations, 17 radio sets, 5 sundry appliances, 2 temporary installations and 37 second inspections. While carrying out these inspections, 104 meter shields were fitted and 50 switchboard covers sealed.
