~ JOHNSONVILLE SALE. HEAVY WEIGHT EWES FIRMER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. A small yarding of cattle and a large yarding of sheep were forward at the sale conducted in Johnsonville yesterday by Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., and Abraham and Williams Ltd. The bullocks penned comprised chiefly medium and heavyweight cattle with a few pens of lightweights. Competition for heavyweight bullocks was keen, with little alteration on the prices ruling last week. Medium and light weight cattle were easier by 5s to 10s a head. Cows and heifers met with no alteration. No runners and vealers were forward. The wethers penned were of exceptionally good quality, and met with a good demand throughout. Extra prime heavy wethers were firm on late rates, though medium and lightweights were Is to Is 6d a head easier. Some exceptionally good quality ewes were yarded. These met with a good sale, prices being slightly firmer than 'those ruling at the last sale. This was more noticeable for the heavyweight sheep. Mediumweight ewes were Is 6d to 2s a head easier, and lightweights were Is a head easier. The yarding of hoggets was of poor quality, meeting with little demand. The first consignment of spring lambs was forward, and prices for these were on a par with those paid for the first lot forward last year. Prices are: — Cattle: Prime extra heavy bullocks £lB to £l6, prime heavy £l5 15s to £l4 16s, heavy £l4 10s to £l3 15s, light and .unfinished £l2 15s to £ll 10s; cows and heifers, £l3 10s to £ll. Sheep: Prime extra heavy wethers 31s 3d to 295, prime heavy 28s 6d to 26s medium 25s fid.' to 21s fid; prime extra heavy ewes 30s to 245, prime heavy 23s 9d to. 21s, medium 20s to 15s; hoggets 20s 3d to 16s 4d; spring lambs 28s to 21s.
ADDINGTON VALUES. RISE IN CATTLE PRICES. CHRISTCHURCH, September 20. A partial-' recovery of last week’s drop in sheep values at Addington was made today, and there was also a rise in cattle prices. Store sheep: Best ewes and lambs sold to'l2s Bd, all counted. A truck lot of halfbred ewes, near lambing, made 21s fid for two and four-tooths and 16s 6d for four, six ancj eight-tobths and 16s 6d for four, six and eight-tooths. A pen of quality hoggets made 235. Fat sheep: Prices opened at an advance of about 2s 6d a head, eased in the middle of the sale, and revived in the final stages. Prices were still 5s to 6s lower than the rates at the end of August, which are the maximum that butchers are not supposed to exceed. Extra prime heavy wethers made to 42s 7d, prime heavy 37s to 40s, prime medium 31s to 365, light 21s to 255; extra prime heavy ewes to 40s 4d, prime heavy 29s to 31s 6d, prime medium 25s to 28s 6d, light 15s to 19s 6d. Fat cattle: Good beef was better than a week ago by up to 30s a head and recovered the drop of a fortnight ago. Extra prime heavy steers made to £26 7s 6d, prime heavy £lB 10s to £l9 15s, prime medium £l6 5s to £lB, light £9 10s to £l2 10s; extra prime heifers to £l9 17s fid, prime £l3 to £l5 10s, medium £ll to £l2 15s, light £8 to £lO 10s; extra prime cows to £l7 2s, fid, prime £ll 10s to £l3 10s, medium £9 10s to £ll ss, light £5 10s to £9 ss. Pigs:—Choppers made 33s fid to £6 Ils; porkers £2 7s 6d to £3 4s fid, average price a lb 7jd to B£d; baconers £3 9s 6d to £6 4s, average price a lb 71 d to Bd. MASTERTON SALE. COMPETITION LIFELESS. The Associated Auctioneers repaid as follows:—A fair entry of stock came forward at the Masterton sale yesterday. There was a moderate attendance. the sale being a lifeless one. Competition was very limited in the fat section and prices suffered accordingly. Really good fat woolly ewes were bought from 21s to 225. Several pens of ewes with lambs at foot were offered but the competition was not keen. The same applies to store weihors and hoggets. The following are prices:— Sheep: Fat wethers. 25s to 26s 6d; prime maiden ewes, to 24s 3d; fat ewes (good), 21s to 225; lighter, 17s to 20s 6d; prime b.f. hoggets, 21s to 235; light fat hoggets, 16s to 17s 6d; woolly ewe hoggets, 21s 6d to 25s 9d; w.w. hoggets, 16s 9d to 17s 3d; store wethers, 20s 7d; small, 17s; ewes with b.f. lambs at foot (very good). 14s 8d all counted; others, 8s to 10s all counted. Cattle: Spring cows, to £6; yearling Jersev-X heifers, £2 2s fid to £3 10s. Pigs: Weaners (good), 23s to 26s 6d; light porkers, to 335; heavy porkers, to £3.
