MAN FOUND DEAD
HAVELOCK NORTH TRAGEDY. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) HAVELOCK N., September 19. Circumstances surrounding the discovery this morning at his residence, Middle Road, Havelock North, of the body of a well-known Hawke’s Bay man, Graeme Leofric Horne-Douglas, suggest that death was the result of asphyxiation. A car was pulled up close to the window of the bedroom in which the body was found and a length of rubber tubing connected with the exhaust-pipe of the car was inserted through the window of the room. It is believed that death occurred some time before the discovery was made, possibly during the weekend, when Mr Horne-Douglas’s wife was absent in Napier. The body was taken into Hastings by Constable Farquharson. Havelock North, and an inquest will be held later. Mr Horne-Douglas was for many years on the staff of the “Daily Telegraph,” Napier, recently as agricultural editor. He was married toward the end of last year to Miss Cynthia Broad, who is well known in Napier.
