WOMEN’S DIVISION

TIRAUMEA MEETING. THIRD BIRTHDAY PARTY. The third birthday party of the Tiraumea branch of the Domen’s Division was held last week and proved to be a huge success. The largest number of people since the opening of the hall was present. . The party took the form of a social and dance. The programme was of an exceptionally high standard and was warmly, applauded. The items were as follow: —A play entitled “Tyranny over Teacups,” was presented by the Haunui group. A second play, “The Dear Departed,” was presented by the Tiraumea group. A third play was presented by the Tiraumea school children and was entitled “People Will Interrupt. - ’ A sketch entitled “Lost Property.” was presented by Mrs Jewitt and Miss E. Wallis. A ladies’ chorus gave two items. Songs were given by Miss Tate, Mr Parsonson/Mr Sargent and Mr C. Reid. Elocutionary items were presented by Miss E. Hansen, Miss N. Houlbrooke and Mr Evans. The music was provided by Mrs G. Houlbrooke and Mr Rowden.

Mrs Hannan, the president of the branch, gave a short address thanking those present for their attendance. She explained the aims of the branch and the nature of the evening's entertainment, Mr Houlbrooke spoke on behalf of those present, and the branch .of the Farmers’ Union, congratulating the division on its progress and its party. Mrs C. Robbie lit the candles on the birthday cake which was made and presented by Mrs Harman, and iced by Mrs Wallis. Mrs Houlbrooke blew out the’ candles, and Mrs Monahan, of the Pongaroa Branch, cut the cake, pieces of which were distributed during supper. Posies were presented to Mrs Harman and Mrs Wallis (secretary) and Mrs Houlbrooke Senr., as her birthday coincided with that of the party. A spray was presented to Mrs G. Houlbrooke. The aggregate prizes for the year were won by Mrs R. Harman Junr. with Miss D. Hart second. The novelty dance, prizes were won by Jean Hart and Pat McManaway (Lucky Spot), and Mr Sargent and Miss Evans (Monte Carlo). Dancing wa's enjoyed until the party finished at 3 a.m.
