DAY OF PRAYER
4 INVITATION TO CHURCHES. OCTOBER 1 APPOINTED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, September 18. An invitation to all churches to appoint October T as a day of national prayer has been extended by the Primate of New Zealand, Archbishop Averill. “In view,” he said, “of the announcement issued by the Archbishop of Canterbury that, with the approval of the King and by order of His,Majesty’s Privy Council, Sunday. October 1 has been appointed a day of national prayer, it will undoubtedly be the wish of all Christian people and all men and women of goodwill to concur heartily in this day of national prayer. “I therefore request that the day be so observed by all Aglican churches throughout the Dominion and I earnestly invite the heads and leaders of all churches to adopt the suggestion and fall into line with their fellow Christians throughout the whole Empire. I have already received assurance from the Rev. Gladstone Hughes, the moderator, that the Presbyterian Church in the Auckland district will gladly fall in with the suggestion.” The Rev. Percy Paris, Wellington, said last night that he felt sure the Methodist Church would accept the invitation and hold intercessary services on October 1. It is understood that the Presbyterian Church in Wellington and other districts will also observe October 1 as a day of national prayer. . '
