The friends and followers of Steve Morris Wairarapa’s sole entrant for the New Zealand boxing championships, will receive with feelings of regret his bad luck in,breaking his right hand against McGirr, the Christchurch champion. He landed a terrific short right, dropping McGirr for eight seconds. The blow broke his right hand. McGirr was admitted, to hospital shortly afterwards with concussion. The announcer gave the decision in error to the loser. The matter was soon corrected, however, and was unanimously given in favour of Morris. His straight and powerful punching was outstanding and many experienced ringsiders regarded him as an almost certainty to carry off the light-weight title. Trainer H. O’Halloran must have bten very disapnointe'd at the accident as he had Morris in excellent form. Personal. Mrs Gallon, who has been on a holiday in Taranaki, has returned to Carterton. Mrs H. Hughan, of Pembroke Street, left this morning for a week’s holiday to Hawke’s Bay. Mr Hughan has left for Christchurch on a Business trip. Mrs N. P. Williams, who has been supervise!- at the Carterton Post Office for the past ten or eleven years, and who recently, was transferred to Eketahuna as relieving postmaster, has been notified that he has been appointed postmaster at Eketahuna. Mr Williams, who has been a most capable official, and who is held in high esteem, will be greatly missed. At various times during his long residence in Carterton he has acted as relieving postmaster.. As a citizen he has taken an active part in many functions in the interest of Carterton's advancement. • He is a valued member of the Cartorugibn Bowling Club. Mr Williams is to complimented upon his promotion. Undoubtedly what will be Carterton’s loss as a valued citizezn will be Eketahuna’s gain.
