The Rev Dr T. Paterson has- been appointed moderator of the Oamaiu Presbytery. Mr F. G. Duncan has been appointed as a representative of producers on the New Zealand Fruit Export Control Board. Mr R. McCallum has resigned from the Marlborough College Board of Governors after 40 years’) continuous membership. Mr J. P. Rutherford has been appointed Deputy-Controller and Audi-tor-General, according to notification in the Gazette. Mr A. C. Munro, of Palmerston North, has been elected to fill a vacancy on the general committee of the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association caused by the resignation of Mr A. E. Ruttledge, of Kairanga. The many friends of Mr A. D. Pickering, of Masterton, will be pleased to learn that he successfully underwent an operation at the Lewisham Hospital in Wellington, and is making satisfactory progress. Dr J. Alex. Doctor, formerly of Featherston, will return to Wellington early next week after an extended tour abroad, during which he visited the East Indies, South Africa, Europe and North America. The name of Mr Cecil C. Johansen, late assistant to the Masterton Borough engineer, is listed among a number of Napier District v recruits volunteering for service abroad or elsewhere. Whilst attached to the Masterton Territorial Force, Mr Johansen attained the rank of 2nd lieutenant in the Hawke’s Bay Regiment. He has been associated in Napier with the Public Works Department as a draughtsman for the past two years. Mr Robert Hunter, a well known Nelson citizen, whose death was reported yesterday, was 82 years of age. He was a pupil .of Matthew Campbell’s School, the first school established in Nelson. He was educated at Nelson College and was a lieutenant of the old Nelson Navals. He was patron of the Defence Rifle Club and was interested both in the Jockey and Trotting clubs. He is survived by four sons (including Mr W. L. Hunter, of Masterton) and one daughter. One son was killed in the war.
