The High Command announced that open towns, villages and hamlets throughout Poland henceforth will be bombed and shelled in order to crush resistance by civilians. A communique from Herr Hitler’s headquarters on the Eastern front declares that this is necessary because the Poles have deliberately converted these places into war zones. The Polish Government and their incompetent and unscrupulous army commanders can be held responsible for the consequences the sorely-tried civil population will suffer.” UNRESTRICTED ATTACKS RETALIATION FOR SNIPING. (Received This Day, 9 a.m.) BERLIN, September 13. The High Command has announced unrestricted artillery and air attacks on Polish towns in retaliation for sniping. FIGHTING IN CORRIDOR POLES ACHIEVE LOCAL SUCCESSES. DENIAL OF GERMAN CLAIMS. (Received This Day, 9 a.m.) LONDON, September 13. A British United Press iVilna correspondent says a radio report states that, despite the German claim to occupancy of the entire Corridor, Polish troops are still fighting there and achieving local successes. ' GERMAN REPORT PROGRESS AND CAPTURES CLAIMED. SEVERAL TOWNS TAKEN. (Received This Day, 10.15 a.m.) BERLIN. September 13. An Army communique says: “The pursuit of the enemy continues in Galicia. The towns of Sambor and Krkaowice have been captured and advance guards have reached the west-' ern edge of Lwow. “Our troops crossed the WarsawSiedlce Road, east of Warsaw. Our motorised troops are twenty-five miles north of Brcstlitovsk. The Polish Army south of Radom has ceased to exist. There have been considerable captures of prisoners and war material.” DRIVE ON LWOW GERMAN MECHANISED UNIT FORCED BACK. INCENDIARY BOMBS DROPPED (Received This Day, 10.55 a.m.) BUDAPEST, September 13. A German mechanised unit reached within 18 miles of Lwow, but was forced back by the Poles, who are rushing up reinforcements. ■ Nazi planes started many fires with incendiary bombings of Lwow.
