NAZI THREAT

BOMBING OF OPEN TOWNS ON. ACCOUNT OF RESISTANCE BY CITIZENS. PROTECTION ALLEGEDLY REJECTED. A Daventry message last night slated:— The Germans today officially announced their intention to bomb and shell open towns and villages in,Poland. The communique reads: Recently there has been an increase in the number of cases in which Polish officials have called on the population to resist the entry of German troops. In Warsaw, the communique says, the civilian population has been incited by radio and by leaflets to wage unceasing warfare against the German troops. The protection of open towns was conditional on their not be made into a war zone. As the Poles have rejected this protection, German armed forces in the future will use all the means at their disposal. •The communique adds that the Gerr' ir force, in co-operation with the a ;, will make it clear that it is useless to resist any longer. The communique concludes by saying that the Polish Government and army can be held responsible for any consequences the civilian population will suffer. ’ SLOVAK DESERTERS TEN THOUSAND INTERNED IN HUNGARY.
