Final precautions are being taken by the Auckland Harbour Board to ensure that the safety-gates which have been placed at the head of the aprons on the vehicular ferry stagings cannot.be opened until released by the mate of the vessel working the landing. Interlocking devices have been designed and already installed in some cases, the result being that no unauthorised person can open the gates.
