The Ministry of Information announced that the convoy system had been put into force, but was not yet operating completely. "When war was forced on us, British merchantmen were scattered along trade routes all over the world," the Ministry states. “It takes time to collect convoys, and it is obviously undesirable to give details.” It is announced that the British steamship Inverlifey was sunk by a submarine. The crew were rescued by the American freighter R. G. Stewart. FINNISH SHIP MINED (Received This Day, 9 a.m.) ESBJERG, September 12. It was revealed today that the Finnish windjammer Olivebank was mined on Friday 105 miles south west of Bouvbjerg (Denmark). Fourteen lives were lost.
