PHYSICAL WELFARE

VISIT OF AREA OFFICERS. MASTERTON CELEBRATIONS. Members of the Masterton, Mauriceville and Castlepoint district committee set up under the Physical Welfare and Recreation Act met several officers appointed under the scheme in Masterton yesterday and discussed with them the proposals for the local celebrations from September^29 to October 7. The officers who visited Masterton yesterday were Mr W. A. Jameson. secretary of the National Council of Physical Welfare and Recreation. and Miss N. Thomson and Mr S. McNicol, area recreation officers. General satisfaction was expressed regarding the proposed programme to be observed in Masterton. The area recreation officers offered to assist in the training of the girls’ interhouse teams. The committee also considered that the week’s functions would provide a good opportunity for the area officers to meet some of the people with whom their work would be associated with in the immediate future. The Town Clerk. Mr G. T. O'Hara Smith, agreed to communicate with the National Art Gallery Trustees asking them if it would be possible to arrange for the exhibition of pictures from the gallery to be held in Masterton during the Recreational Week.
