MANY VOLUNTEERS
SERVICE IN OR BEYOND NEW ZEALAND APPRECIATION EXPRESSED BY MINISTER. MOST STRIKING RESPONSE. (By Telegrapn—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Up till 9 o’clock last evening a total of 6655 registrations of volunteers for military service within or beyond New Zealand had been made, according to a statement by the Minister of Defence, Mr Jones, before the adjournment of the House of Representatives last night. The registrations were made up as follows: — The military district totals were:— Northern, 2,631; Central. 2.494; Southern, 1,530. The Minister said the ready response of the young men of New Zealand had been most striking. In addition, there had been a Avonderful response to the appeal for recruits for the Air Force. “I think members will join with me in expressing appreciation to the young men who have responded so well to the appeal that has been made,” Mr Jones said. His announcement Avas accorded a round of applause by members.
