FLYING ACTIVITIES
WAIRARAPA AND RUAHINE AERO CLUB. TRAINING OF CIVIL RESERVISTS. At the monthly meeting of the committee of the Wairarapa and Ruahine Aero Club, held in the Clubhouse, Hood Aerodrome, last evening. Mr E. A. Heyder, vice-president presided in the absence of the president, Mr A. McDonald. Flying hours are beginning to reflect the increasing activity in training of civil reservists and private trainees. During August 51 hours 50 minutes Avere flown in the club’s machines including cross-country flights to Dannevirke, Hastings, Palmerston North and Rotorua. Five new pilot members Avere elect, ed. It Avas reported that dual flying had been commenced by them and that several others would start flying training in the near future. The surface of the aerodrome, Avhieh had recently been levelled, regrassed and rolled would be put into use again before the end of the month. The grass, it was stated, was making good growth with the warm weather now being experienced and already there were indications of an excellent sole of grass. It was decided to remove the dividing fence between the two landing fields and also a large concrete tank on the fence boundary. It was unanimously resolved to forward copies of the New Zealand monthly flying journal, “Wings,” to each member of the club who was on active service with the Royal Air Force.
The Air Department advised B. V. Le Pine and C. P. Bargh had been enrolled in the Civil Reserve of Pilots.
