COUNTY AFFAIRS

MEETING OF MASTERTON COUNCIL. NEV/ GRADER EXPECTED THIS WEEK. A meeting of the finance committee of the Masterton County Council was held this morning, the chairman of the finance committee, Councillor H. H. Mawley presiding. The treas'ner reported that the state of the banx accounts at September 8 were as follows: —County Fund Account, credit £1515. The Bridge Loan Account on fixed deposit at the Bank of New Zealand was £l3OO. The Bridge Fund Account showed a credit of £646. Receipts since last meeting totalled £14,840. of which £11,520 represented rates. Subsidy outstanding and due from the Government for main highways and other public work amounted to £612. Accounts amounting to £8341 were recommended for payment. The County Clerk (Mr J. C. D. Mackley) reported on his interview with Mr J. W. McLauchlan concerning the location of the water pump site to supply water for washing chips at the Te Ore Ore crushing depot. The action taken by Mr Mackley in regard to the oil and fuel regulations insofar as the county council's petrol requirements were concerned was confirmed. Information was received that the new Diesel patrol grader would be delivered. subject to confirmation of the Main Highways Board, during the coming week. Mr M. W. Dixon’s resignation as a junior clerk was accepted with regret.
