GALLANT SEAMEN
INJURED CAPTAIN RESCUED FROM SINKING SHIP. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 12.20 p.m.) LONDON, September 11. Three members of the crew of the steamer Goodwood, which was sunk by a submarine on September 10, in the North Sea, jumped out of a lifeboat to rescue their skipper, who was trapped by wreckage on the vessel, with both his legs broken. The Goodwood was sinking and Captain Hewson told the men to look after themselves, but the boatswain and two others pulled the wreckage away, put a lifejacket on the captain, threw him over the side and then jumped overboard themselves. They were picked up by a lifeboat.
