RANDWICK MEETING WIN FOR defaulter. TRIUMPH FOR NEW ZEALAND HORSES. By Telegraph—P—’s Association —Copyright. SYDNEY, September 9. Defaulter won the Chelmsford Stakes at Randwick today from. Beau Vite and Royal Chief, completing a triumpn for New Zealand horses. Principal results were:— Tramway Handicap, 7f.: Adios, 8.2 (Parsons), 1; Olympus, 7.4 (Fell), 2; Sedenum, 8.7 (Munro), 3. Twelve started. Adios was set a severe task, as Olympus established a lead whicn almost gave him victory, but Adios was too solid over the last furlong. Half a length; length. Time, 1.24 J. Chelmsford Stakes, weight-for-age, Im. and If.: Defaulter, 9.7 (Ellis), 1; Beau Vite, 8.2 (Lappin), 2; Royal Chief, 9.11 (Davidson), 3. All started. The feature of the race was a great run Royal Chief, who came from last to gain third place. Beau Vite galloped snlendidly, and hard-pressed Defaulter. The race was run at a strong pace. The first three furlongs were covered in 384 seconds, and the five furlongs in 1.44, which made the last half-mile 494 seconds. High Caste appeared to meet interference, arid was in the middle of the field all the waj. The early pace was made by Reading, with Defaulter second and Beau Vite close by. Defaulter went to the from turning for home and, in a great race, won by a short head from Beau Vite. Royal Chief was a length away.third. Time, 1.54. . Spring Handicap, Um.: Headcheck, 6.9 (Podmore), 1; Cooranga, 8.9 (Faisons), 2; Fearless, 7.12 (Hickey), 3. All started. Three-quarters of a length; half a length. Time, 2.5 J. Beau Repaire and Pearl of Asia were unplaced in the Three and Four-Year-Old Handicap, one mile. Moorsotis was unplaced in the Welter Handicap, one mile. MENTONE RACES. PAGEANT SALUTES JUDGE. MELBOURNE, September 9. At the Mentone races, the principm results were: — Boisdale Welter: Benedict, 8.12 (Breasley), 1; Grand-Hero, 7.9 (Simonds), 2; Trendel, 8.3 (Dewhurst), 3. Twelve started. Neck; half a necs. Time, 1.281. Powerscourt Handicap: Pageant, 9.1 (Reed), 1; Caragona, 6.13 (Hall), i; Templecoyn, 8.9 (Breasley), 3. Eleven started, including Aranui and Pantoon. Half a length; two * lengths. Time.t 2.6. RACES AT DOOMBEN. TRIAL WON BY BENGAL LANCER. BRISBANE, September 9. At the Doomben races, the Trial Handicap was won by the 'Lackham gelding, Bengal Lancer, by a length from First Chance and Pentheus Night in 1.12 J. ■
