WEDDING
SOWMAN—ROBINSON. A wedding of considerable interest to Carterton residents took place on Saturday night Iqst at St. Mark's Anglican Church, when Beryl Winifred, cider daughter of Mr and Mrs V. L. .Robinson, of Wyndham Streets Carterton, was married to Roy George, youngest son of Mrs E. and the late Mr G. Sowman, of Carterton. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. W. F. Stent, Vicar of St. Mark’s Anglican Church. The bride, who was escorted by her father, was dressed in a beautiful deep magnolia satin frock cut on princess lines, the back and sleeves being tucked, the skirt forming a long train. The bridal veil was of embroidered tulle, with a coronet of orange blossoms. She / carried a handsome bouquet of lilies, orchids and freesias. .j The bridesmaids were Miss Cheri Robinson (chief), sister of the bride, Miss Florence Steven and Miss Elsie Daysh (cousin of the bridegroom). They were attired in lovely frocks of floral lacquered organdie green, pink and blue, respectively, and wore small hats of velvet and flowers of the same shades as their frocks. They carried lovely bouquets of tulips, sweet peas and carnations.
Mr T. Hume, was best man, and the groomsmen were Messrs L. Allen and L. Banks.
A reception was held at the State Theatre, where a very large number of guests were entertained. The guests were receivd by the bride’s mother, who wore a model frock of clover georgette, large felt hat to match and a shoulder spray of carnations and hyacinths in a deeper tone. She was assisted by the mother of the bridegroom, Mrs Sowman, who was dressed in a liddo blue embossed ring velvet, with hat and shoes to tone and pink shoulder spray. The usual toasts were honoured, and later in the evening the floor was cleared . and an enjoyable dance was held. Mr and Mrs Sowman left by car on their honeymoon which is being spent in the north. The bride travelled in an ensemble of torquoise blue with hat and coat to match, wearing black gloves and carrying a purse. Mr and Mrs Roy G. Sowman’s future home will be in Masterton.
A novelty at the wedding was the gift to the guests who were present of a wish bone each, lacquered and coloured in keeping with the bridesmaids’ frocks.
