SOLWAY-MANAIA COMPETITION RESULTS. (“Times-Age” Special.) At a well-attended meeting of the Solway-Manaia Women's Institute held yesterday afternoon, Mrs S. J. Munn (president) welcomed all members and visitors. Mesdamse Reynolds and Whittaker were nominated „ delegates to attend the Council meeting at Martinborough. Mrs Allan was thanked for making and icing the birthday cake. The Roll Call, “My most thrilling experinece” brought many amusing and interesting anecdotes. For her demonstration of smocked aprons, Mrs Ramsay received a hearty vote of thanks. - The competition resulted as follows: —Decorated bowl, Mrs Catton 1, Mrs Catherall 2; chocolate sponge, Mrs Nicol 1, Mrs Munn 2; scones, Mrs Cornick 1; Mrs Munn 2; oven cloth. Mrs Scrivener 1, Miss McAllister 2; knitting, Mrs Scrivener 1, Mrs Crewe 2. The next committee meeting will be held on September 28. The October programme is as follows:—Roll Call, something antique. Cooking:—>(l), Madeira cake; (2), ginger nuts. Sewing, cushion cover; also in this class special prizes are being offered for (1), a frock or coat made of old or new material; (2) an under garment of old or new material; (3) knitted garment of old or new wool. These articles are to be given (if required) to war children in need of clothing. Flowers, collection of bulbs. The hostesses were Mesdames Reynolds, Scrivener, Sutherland, (sent) and Catton.
