INDOOR BASKETBALL
MEN’S SECTIONS. PIRATES WIN CHAMPIONSHIP. The indoor basketball competition organised by the Y.M.C.A. during the past season has been brought to a close, Pirates winning the championship for the 1939 season. In the last game of the second round after a great struggle Reliance A team played a drawn game with Pirates and at a later date in the deciding game Reliance A proved the victors by 15 points to 10. Pirates being 3 points ahead in the championship the loss of this match made no difference to their chances of winning the championship. The Pirates team comprised the following players: S. Geary, J. Clarridge, W. Wickens, S. Faulknor, J. Pauling. Positions of Teams. The following is the positions of the
I Knockout Competition. In the first round of a knockout competition last night the following were the results: — Men. Pirates 24 beat W.F.C.A. 7. Reliance 14 beat Y.M.C.A. Juniors 12. Ladies. Lancers 50 beat United 14. W.F.C.A. 26 beat Hugo and Shearers 7. Woolworths 28 beat C. Smiths 5. Rovers 16 beat Y.M.C.A. 14. Ladies’ Teams. The following is the position of ladies’ teams: —
fielded a splended team and went through the competition with only onc« defeat and that was at the hands of Woolworths, who defeated the Lancers after an exciting game by 12 points to 11. . •
