The two divisions of the Warriston Handicap for three-year-olds were won respectively by Skirl and Pure Gold. The latter registered an excellent Derby trial, overwhelming the field in heavy going, and winning by two lengths. SPORT OF KINGS OVERSEAS PERSONAL AND OTHERWISE. Racing was thrown out in the State of New Jersey by legislature 42 years ago. It is, however, to again have it, a vote in its favour being carried by 459,461 to 302,652 last June. New Jersey once had the finest racecourse in America. That was Monmouth Park. Speculation is to be restricted to the pari-mutuel, and it is improbable many tracks will be licensed.

Tel Asur has been backed by his connections for the Caulfield Cup in doubles with prominent Melbourne Cup candidates (says a Sydney writer). He has been coupled with Mosaic to win £20,000, Defaulter to win £lO,OOO, and Spear Chief to win £lO,OOO. Long odds were quoted for these transactions and the outlay was not extensive. Tel Asur won the mile Fernhill Handicap, the longest race for two-year-olds, at the A.J.C. Easter meeting at Randwick last April with 7.7 and was successful a week later in another Randwick two-year-old race at City Tattersail’s meeting with 8.0. He completed the season’s racing by winning Tattersail’s Two-Year-Old, carrying 9.0. Tel Asur has 7.6 in the Caulfield Cup, a pound under weight-for-age.

The National Hunt Committee purposes altering the rule bearing on topweights in England. It is proposed to make the top-weight in handicap steeplechases of four miles or upwards not more than 12.0.

A newspaper is said to have beaten the 6 to 5 on favourite, Tout Change, for the Bilbury Cup, of £470, at Salisbury last month. Someone threw a paper on the track about 100 yards from home, and Tout Change jumped in order to avoid it. He was momentarily thrown off his balance and. though he quickly got going again, failed by a head to reach a 10 to 1 chance, Nettleweed. “There's some good in newspapers after all," was the comment of a bookmaker who would have had a heavy pay-out if Tout Change had won.

The New York “Herald” records an attractive success by The Wind in a race over six furlongs and a-half for three-year-old fillies run at Aqueduct recently. The Wind, who is owned by Mr J. H. Witney, is by The Porter from Nea Lap, sister to Phar Lap. A colt. Poet’s Corner, by Royal Minstrel, from Nea Lan. in Boyd Rochfort’s stable h\ England, has yet to race, but is expect-' ed soon to earn distinction.
