Smith, of Wanganui, were visitors to Carterton for the Bone-Barber wedding. Mr and Mrs J. D. O’Connor, of Essex Street, Masterton, were visitors to! Wellington during the weekend. Mrs Hornsby and Miss Telford, of Parapardumu, are visiting Mrs M. Doyle, Manaia, Masterton. Miss J. Armstrong, of Pownall Street, I Masterton, has returned home after a holiday spent in the South Island. I Mrs Guy Holmes, Sussex Street, who has been staying at Otaki Beach during the school holidays, has returned to Masterton. Mrs. Roderick McKenzie, who has been staying at Kent House, Masterton, returned to her home in Kopuaranga yesterday. To succeed Miss D. M. Arthur, whose retirement was recently announced, Miss E. M. McCarthy, Gisborne, has been appointed principal of the Napier Girls’ High School. Miss McCarthy has for four years been on the staff of the Gisborne High School as senior mistress, and has also had charge of the hostel attached to the school. She is a graduate of the Otago University and holds the degree M.Sc. It is expected that she will take up her duties in Na-’ pier early in October. The marriage took place on. August 12 at Christ Church, Lancaster Gate, London, of Githa Margaret HandNewton, only child of Mr W. G. HandNewton, and the late Mrs Hand-New-ton, Christchurch, and formerly of Masterton, and Frederick Charles Smith, elder son of Mr and Mrs F. C. Smith, London. The bridegroom is Director of Studies at the Westminster Institute of Chiropody, previous to which he was at the London Foot Hospital. The bride was educated at Marsden School, . Wellington, and Rangi-ruru School, Christchurch. Mr and Mrs Smith will make their home at Oslo Court, ’Regents Park.
