GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS FIRST ROUND RESULTS. ("Times-Age” Special.) Played on the Taratahi links on Saturday the following is the result of the first rounds of the Carterton Club Senior: R. Fisher beat B. Booth 2 up; C. K. Goodin beat H. Dudson 2 and 1; W. Moroney beat D. Smith 2 up: Junior: R. Forbes beat A. Krahagen 5 and 4; R. Harrington beat W. Candy 3 and 1; J. Dwane beat H. Colson at the 19th; V. Gustofson beat B. Beaven 4 and 3. The best cards returned in a medal competition are as under: D. L. Tavernei’, score *79, handicap 11» total 68, G. Riggs 83, 12, 71; G. W. Hart 83, 11, 72; C. C. Callender 97, 24, 73; E. T. Beaven 99, 24, 75. In a challenge match for the Hill and Hughes buttons, Riggs and Colson retained them by finishing all square with S. Hill and T. Hughes. SCRIPTUAL EXAMINATION SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES. Among the successful candidates at the annual Sunday School scriptural examination held in July were the following: Carterton Methodist, Kenneth White 80 marks. Pat Rowe 74, Ruth White 73. Shirley Byrnes 59. Carterton Presbyterian, Beryl Busby 90, Isobel Fisher 89, Christine Fisher 83, Eileen Jensen 80, Mavis White 54. Personal Items. Mrs A. B. Keenan and family, who have been spending a short holiday in Wellington, returned to Carterton on Saturday. „ , Mrs L. Knutson and family have returned home from Plimmerton. Miss W. Hitchen has returned from Christchurch. Mrs J. Steel, Wyndham Street, is visiting her daughter, Mrs Godfrey Stroud, of "Toi Flats,” Dannevirke. Miss Verna Sorenson, Victoria Street, is spending a holiday at Mt. Cook Hermitage.
