ITALY’S POSITION
TANTAMOUNT TO STRICT NEUTRALITY UTJVIOST EFFORTS MADE FOR PEACE. HOPES OF CIRCUMSCRIBING CONFLICT. LONDON, September 2. Reuter’s Rome correspondent reports that the Government's declaration that Italy will not take military initiative is considered in authoritative Fascist circles as tantamount to a declaration of strict neutrality. It is emphasised that Italy used her utmost efforts to reach a peaceful solution. Failing this, it is added, Italy’s best contribution is to help to circumscribe the conflict by not joining in.
