HARRIER ACTIVITIES

DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP RUNAWAY WIN FOR PULLAR. JUNIOR RACE TO KIATERE. Held in splendid weather and over an excellent and fast trail the annual race for the District Championship between the Kiatere and Masterton Harrier Clubs, resulted in a runaway win for W. A. C. Pullar, the present title holder. The trail, which was layed by Mr W. Burns, commenced from the south gate of the Showgrounds and after passing along High, Fleet and York Streets, continued on through swampy country past the Fish Hatcheries to the railway. After following parallel with the line for a good quar-ter-mile a turn was then taken down Judd’s road and then round again. From the start by Mr L. Askew, Pullar took the lead along High Street, closely followed by G. Gregory (Masterton), R. Greeks (Kiatere), R. Shaw (Masterton), and W. MacDonald, W. Burgess, J. Laing (all Kiatere). From this point until the finish the position of the leaders remained unchanged with the exception that Shaw displaced Greeks for third place. Pullar’s time ,f' for the first lap was 14min lOsecs. Detailed placings were W. A. C. Pullar (M), 1, 29.14; G. Gregory (M), 2, 30.7; R. Shaw (M), 3, 30.48; W. Burgess (K). 4, 31.10; R. Greeks, 5; W. MacDonald 6; W. Burns, 7; J. Laing, 8; L. Francis, 9. Four juniors from each club took part in a team’s race’ over one lap of the course prior to the’main event, which resulted in a win for Kiatere. Times and placings for this race were: —M. Doyle (K), 1, 16.24; P. Greenlees (M), 2, 16.30; N. Jacobsen (K), 3, 16.33; F. Sexton (K), 4, 14.23; C. Summers (K), 5, 17.34.
