HITLER BROADCASTS
SAYS POLAND HAS APPEALED TO ARMS PROCLAMATION TO ARMY. ALLEGATION OF TERRORISM. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright BERLIN, September 1. The text of a proclamation broadcast by Herr Hitler at. 5.40 a.m. by the' official German wireless station said: — “The Fuehrer has issued the following proclamation to the army: The Polish State has refused the peaceful settlement which I desire and has appealed to arms. Germans in Poland arc persecuted with bloody terror and driven from their houses. “The series of violations of the fron tier is intolerable to a great Power and proves that Poland is no longer willing to respect the frontier of the Reich. “In order to end this lunacy I have no other choice than to meet force with, force from now on. The German army will fight the battle for the honour and vital rights of the reborn Ger many with hard determination. I expect that every soldier mindful of the great traditions of the eternal German soldiery will ever remain consciouthat he is a representative of the Nat ional Socialist Greater Germany. “Long live our people and our Reich.” Extra editions of newspapers carry the huge headlines: “Force Against [ Force.” but there is no official indica lion of any declaration of war. It may also be pointed out that Herr Hitler’.proclamation does not contain any in struction or direction to action.
