Dr N. H. Prior, of Masterton, has returned from a holiday spent in Auckland and Rotorua.
. Mr. Victor McKeague, of Masterton, left yesterday for South Canterbury, where he will spend his annual leave. Mr L. Simmins, of Invercargill, is on a visit to Masterton and is staying at the Empire Hotel. The Hon. Sir Heaton Rhodes has accepted the position of Dominion president 'of the New Zealand Red Cross Society.
Dr. C. D. Henry, one of Wellington’s oldest medical practitioners, has been in ill-health for some time, and is at present in a private hospital. Mr. I. V. Jones, Wellington, has been appointed manager of the Government Tourist Bureau, Te Aroha, in succession to the late Mr. R. G. Ewing. The Rev. J. E. Penman, Edinburgh, who has been supplying the pulpit of Knox Church, Dunedin, during the absence of the Rev. D. C. Herron, arrived at Wellington yesterday from Dunedin on his return to Edinburgh. A painful accident was- suffered on Wednesday evening by Mrs Dale, Senr., of Masterton. Whilst adjusting a window' curtain she fell from a chair on which she had been standing and had the misfortune to fracture her hip. The funeral of the late Mr Abraham Harris Dew took place in Masterton yesterday and was largely attended. The Rev. T. V. Pearson conducted the services at the Chapel and the graveside. Messrs W. A. Wardell, W. O’Hara, G. Gaskin, R. Larsen, C. King, and T. Dew were the pallbearers.
The appointment has been made of Mr J. T. Paul as Director of Publicity under the Censorship and Publicity Emergency -Regulations, with Mr J. H. Hall as Deputy-Director of Publicity. Mr G. McNamara has been appointed Controller of Censorship, though it is understood that he will not be in charge of the Press censorship, which is to come under the Director of Publicity.
The death occurred-yesterday of Mr Alfred Hughes ' Paterson, aged 42, solicitor, says a Press Association telegram from Greymouth He was a member of the borough council and was prominent in the Presbyterian Church. Caledonian Society and debating circles Mr, Paterson was born in Sydney. He leaves a wife and four daughters. Brothers are the Rev. John Paterson (Stratford) and Rev. Dr. Paterson (Oamaru).
