McPhee presided and the followingdelegates were also present: Messrs S. Henson, R. B. Booth, K. H. Reid, H. Benge, L. Pearson. B. Welch. C. Gray. K. G. Fairbrother, M. J. Parker and the secretary (Mr E. McKenzie). The treasurer’s statement showed that the receipts since the last meeting had been £57 ss, and the credit balance was shown as £244 14s 4d. Accounts passed for payment amounted to £llB 17s, which leaves the credit balance after accounts are paid at £125 17s 4d. A statement submitted to the meeting showed that all gate receipts in the Wairarapa showed a decline with the exception of Featherston and Gladstone.
The Carterton Club wrote stating that the Featherston third grade team had played a number of junior players against their team in a recent match. The question was asked if the team’s card had been sent to the secretary and this being replied to in the negative it was resolved that the Featherston Club be written to asking the reason why the team’s card had not been sent in and to furnish the same. The Gladstone Club wrote protesting against their club to all intents and purposes being ruled out of the Redmond Cup competition as the result of the Carterton team beating Gladstone last Saturday and that Carterton and Old Boys were to play the final. It was explained by the chairman that the fixtures committee had decided that the games should be as drawn and it had not been taken into account that a drawn game should have been played to a final decision. The fixtures committee had decided that Carterton and Old Boys were still in the running and drew last Saturday’s fixtures accordingly. Gladstone now protested that the ruling was wrong. A discussion ensued and upon the motion of Mr Pearson, seconded by Mr Booth, it was decided by six votes to four that Gladstone were still the holders, that the protest be upheld, and that the winners of the game Carterton v Old Boys tomorrow play the holders (Gladstone) on the Gladstone ground on September 23. It was considered that the Union was to blame for not having notified the referee that the drawn game should have been played to a decision. The meeting decided that the fixtures as drawn for tomorrow be carried out and that the winners of the Carterton—Old Boys game play Gladstone as a final for the Cup and m the event of a draw at Carterton tomorrow the game to be played to a decision. The New Zealand Rugby Football Union wrote asking how many reserved seats Wairarapa would require for the game North v South Island to be played at Wellington. It was resolved to apply for 120 tickets. The Nelson - Rugby Union wrote thanking Wairarapa Union for the generous hospitality extended to its touring team when visiting Wairarapa. The secretary of the Wairarapa Referees’ Association wrote concerning a matter in which an apology was asked for from a spectator and a supposed member of the Masterton Club. The person in question had been asked to attend the referees’ meeting and had failed to do so and the Referees’ Association considered an apology should be forthcoming to Mr W: Spooner, the referee concerned. It was decided that the Masterton Club be written to asking if the person concerned had the backing of the Club and if so it was deemed an apology should be tendeied. An application by the referees for new white jerseys was held over till next season. The Masterton Odd Fellows (Manchester Unitv were granted permission to use the Memorial Park for their annual game with Dannevirke Odd Fellows.
The Red Star third grade team was given permission to play Petone on Saturday, September 9. The Martinborough Football Club were granted permission to play a visiting city team on Saturday, and the chairman’s action in granting the same club permission to play Marist at Wellington last Saturday was endorsed. , The Martinborough Young Farmers, Club were granted permission to play the Masterton Young Farmers’ Club at Masterton on September 16. this was in respect to members of the club under the jurisdiction of the Union and who are members of the Young Fai - mers’ Clubs. | Mr Benge asked if it were possible for the Pearson Cup game, Carterton v Featherston, to be played at Featherston on Saturday. The chairman sajd that only by consent of the Carterton Club could this be so, as Carterton were the holders of the Cup and the game was, according to the rules, to be played on the holder’s ground. However, if Carterton consented to a change of venue it would be all right. The secretary is to ascertain Carter • ton’s feelings in the matter and to notify Mr Benge accordingly. Mr K. H. Reid was appointed manager of the Wairarapa senior representatives when the team visits Wellington on September 16. It was resolved that all competitions close on Saturday (tomorrow) except the Redmond Cup fixture. It was resolved that a letter be forwarded to the Schools’ Football Association conveying the Union’s congratulations to. the Wairarapa piimaiy school boys upon winning the schools’ tourney last week. The secretary was ordered to send a letter of congratulation to the junior selector, Mr Gordon Udy, upon his good work as selector. It was generally conceded that he had done well to provide a team to hold Wellington juniors to a drawn game. It was decided that the committee meet again at Carterton on September 14. ~
