Ottawa. —Canadian Government officials are true ■ bird lovers. When some old buildings were torn down on Parliament Hill to make place for the erection of the new Supreme Court building, the Government authorised the building of a large 24-compartment bird-house adjoining the site to house the colony of purple martins which had been disturbed. When her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth, laid the cornerstone for the new building on the visit of their Majesties to Ottawa, members of the colony of purple martins assisted in the ceremony by flying around her head.
