At the annual meeting of the Nireaha Co-operative Dairy Company the following report was presented by the directors: —Your directors submit for your consideration the Thirty-fifth Annual General Report and Balance Sheet for the year ended July 31, 1939. The output of cheese was 453 tons Bcwt. Oqrs. 21 lbs., which was a decrease of 26 tons 15cwt. 3qrs. 31b. Owing to the poor state of the butter plant, it was decided to cease the manufacture of whey butter and sell the whey cream, and your directors are convinced that this has proved to be a very wise decision. In the directors’ report for the previous year, it was estimated that the average payout per pound of butterfat (all grades) would be 15.498 d and this amount was paid out. In respect of the current year, cheese unspld has been valued according to its grade and on this basis it is estimated that the average payout for ‘the season per pound of butterfat (all grades) will be 18.247 d. The amount advanced to date has been 15.497 d to be paid later. The result of the year’s working is entirely catisfactory, and your directors consider the payout to be well above the average. The amount available for distribution is £4857 17s 7d, and your directors recommend that provision be made for a further payment of 2Jd per pound of butterfat, the payment of a dividend of 3 per cent on the paid-up capital, which will absorb £66 5s 3d, and that after the payment of income tax and social security tax, the balance be written off the plant. Mr E. B. Terry is the only director to retire by rotation, and as he is leaving the district, he is not seeking re-election. Mr W. C. Harrington again offers his services as auditor.
