The many friends of Mr B. Morriss, of Eketahuna, who has been seriously ill, will be pleased to learn that he is making satisfactory progress towards recovery.

The Rt Rev T. E. Riddle, moderator of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand, will represent his Church at the triennial Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Australia, to be held in Sydney this month. At a meeting of the Presbytery of the Wairarapa an unanimous call was received from the Carterton Presbyterian Church to the Rev W. J. Couling, of Geraldine. Mr Couling is expected to accept the invitation from the Carterton Church.

After’ delegates attending the annual meeting of the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board in Wellington yesterday had heard short addresses from each candidate, the following were elected as members of the board: — Mr H. D. Acland (Christchurch, Mr J. D. W. Ormond. (Waipukurau), Mr H. E. Worsp (Whangarei). The appointment of Mr Cyril George Collins as Controller and Auditor-Gen-eral as from today was announced last evening by the Acting-Prime Minister, Mr Fraser. Mr Collins succeeds Mr J. H. Fowler, who is retiring on superannuation after 44 years’ service to the State. During Mr Fowler’s two years as Controller and Auditor-General Mr Collins has been his deputy. It is interesting to note that Mr Collins is assuming an office formerly held by his father, the late Colonel R. J. Collins, who retired in 1921 after serving 11 years as Controller and Auditor-Gen-eral. The death has occurred of Mr Charles Edward Keen, of Palmerston North, at the age of 59 years. He was born at Palmerston South in 1880, and was educated at the Palmerston South and Milton District High Schools. On leaving the latter he joined the locomotive branch of the Railways Department at Dunedin, and was stationed subsequently at Balclutha. Clinton, Invercargill, Upper Hutt, Cross Creek, Napier, Masterton and finally Palmerston North. Mr Keen was a prominent bandsman. He was the holder of gold and silver medals for band performances. Mr Keen is survived by his wife (a daughter of the late Mi- and Mrs F. Guise, formerly of Riverton), whom he married in 1906, two daughters, Mrs E. L. Wells (Auckland) and Miss S. Keen (Palmerston North), and two sons, : Messrs Andrew Keen and Horace Keen (Palmerston North). At the annual meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association last night the election of officers resulted as follows: Patron, the Governor-General of New Zealand, Lord Galway; president, Mr A. G. Henderson (Wellington); vice-presi-dents, presidents of affiliated association, secretary and treasurer, Mr H. N. Burns (Wellington); management committee, Messrs J. A. McGill (North Auckland), A. G. Henderson (Taranaki), H. Clay (Auckland), N. A. Foden (Poverty Bay), , W. J. Melody (Wanganui), H. J. Thompson (Manawatit), H. S. Wilkinson (Canterbury); honorary auditor, Mr F. O. Austin; honorary vice-presidents, Messrs E. D. Andrews, P. W. Rootham, J. Borotra, and Miss N. Lloyd; representatives on the Lawn Tennis Association, London, Mr G. N. Lee; representatives on the International Lawn Tennis Federation. Messrs G. N. Lee and G. Gotz.
