ANOTHER WIN

SOUTHLAND RUGBY REPS. SOUTH CANTERBURY DEFEATED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) TIMARU. August 30. Boating South Canterbury by •>.■> points to 6. Southland today won thoii fifth successive Rugby representative fixture of the season and brought their total of points to 161. They have had only 13 points scored against them no team yet having crossed their line. South Canterbury had chances in this direction, but just failed to get there. Tries were scored for the winners by Calvert (3). Ward. Mahony. Sutherland (2). McKenzie. J. Purdue. Fleming converted one. and McKenzie two. Lundy and Murphy kicked penally goals for South Canterbury. FIJI TOURISTS. WIN AGAINST KING COUNTRY. TAUMARUNUI, August 30. On a ground heavy after rain which lasted till midday and before 4000 spectators Fiji beat King Country 14 to 9. The visitors played spectacular football, throwing the ball about freely and showing superiority in speed, which frequently nonplussed the local defence. The forwards were evenly matched, with King Country hooking better in the set scrums. The local backs, however, were poor both in defence and attack. Dropped passes and failure to stem fast, loose rushes being their undoing. The Fiji inside backs were very fast, played right up on the local five-eights and frequently profited from their errors. FOUR TO NIL. OTAGO DEFEAT WANGANUI. WANGANUI, August 30. The Wanganui representative Rugby

team met with its fourth successive defeat when it was beaten today by the Otago touring team by 4 points (a potted goal by D. Trevathan) to nil. The ground was sudden after heavy rain, the centre of the field being covered by sheets of water, which militated against spectacular play. The attendance was small. Trevathan’s goal was registered in the first fifteen minutes of the game, and later Otago were unlucky when W. Perriam attempted a field goal, the ball striking the goalpost and bouncing infield. Though both sides went close to scoring tries, neither line was crossed.
