The Federal Cabinet will remain in session at Melbourne until the international situation is clarified. Ministers met continuously yesterday. They had before them the text of the British re.ply to Herr Hitler but refused to discuss it. The Royal Australian Navy is now virtually on a war footing. Though reserves have not yet been mobilised, they have been told to hold themselves in readiness for service. After a period of intense military preparation, the Darwin defences have been manned for action. The coast de-i fence forts have been keeping con--stant watch and are ready to assume j war conditions immediately.
