LAMBING SEASON
QUITE FAVOURABLE SO FAR. MILD VZEATHER WELCOME. Reports concerning the lambing season in the Wairarapa are quite favourable. Several farmers record lambing well up to the average, with little or no trouble experienced with the ewes. Fortunately, after the bleak weather of July, August has been particularly mild and the conditions generally for lambing could not have been more favourable. The view was held in some quarters that the succession of snowstorms experienced in July would affect the ewes at lambing time, but as far as the flat, country is concerned any trouble in that direction this season has not been greater than usual. Another view is that with Southdowns more trouble is likely if the ewes are too fat, and it is considered that following on the drought early this year, in the case of that breed at least, the ewes •were actually in better condition for lambing than is sometimes the case. In any case, one breeder of Southdowns reports an almost entire absence of ewe trouble. >
Lambing is still proceeding on the hill country, and indications regarding these areas likewise point to a favourable season.
