AUSTRALIAN PAYMENTS
NEGOTIATION OF BILLS & CHEQUES. SOME RESTRICTIONS IMPOSED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. It is understood, on inquiries made here, that banks in New Zealand will only negotiate bills and cheques on Australia in payment for merchandise shipped to Australia in the usual way of trade. Australian dividend cheques and the requirements of. Australian travellers in New Zealand will be met as usual. Negotiations of bills on Australia for other purposes Will not be made. It would appear that Australia has taken steps of a precautionary character in order to conserve its overseas funds in view of the present unsettled condition of world affairs.
