EKETAHUNA

BOWLING CLUB ANNUAL MEETING OF MEMBERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the annual meeting of the Eketahuna Bowling Club the election of officers resulted as follows:- —Patron. Mr F. Cowlam (re-elected); president, l Mr W. Simpson (re-elected); vice-president, Mr A. H. Herbert (re-elected); secretary and treasurer, Mr A, Fredricksen (re-elected); selector, Mr W. Hornblow (re-elected); committee, Messrs L. C. Christie, H. Rogers. W. Green. W. N. Richardson, H. Smith, J. Ammundsen; delegate to centre. Mr J. A. Nash. It was reported that the champion singles had been won by Mr J. Tolley and the champion pairs by Messrs W. Hornblow and O. Stone. The president( Mr W. Simpson) gave a summary of the past year’s activities of the club, stating that the position was very satisfactory. He hoped the coming season would bring even better results. Ten new members were elected. METHODIST CHURCH JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS. The jubilee celebrations of the* opening of the first church in Eketahuna have been arranged for Sunday, October 29, when a jubilee service will be conducted by the Rev. Angus McBean, former minister of the circuit. The celebrations, which will include a banquet, will extend over Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. The first religious service in Eketahuna was held in 1880 and was conducted by Mr William Bayliss, a Methodist local preacher, in the newlyerected public- school. Steps toward the erection of the first church began in 1887 and the church itself was officially opened in 1389. Former members of the congregation will greatly assist the organisers of the celebrations if they send immediately a postcard giving their present address to Mr W. Hornblow, Eketahuna. Personal. Mr Steer, of the Post Office staff, is laid aside with influenza, which is very prevalent throughout the district.
